Well, its been all systems go around here.

We are barely getting a minute to catch our breath - Food Show, SPCA Cupcake Day, Fathers Day, now the Wedding Show AND searching for another Part-timer.

Dont fret - our amazing Sophie isnt going anywhere, we are just needing more hands on deck, and we're having a wee switch-a-roo. Its exciting to add to the Delish team, and we are certainly looking forward to the extra help!

Still waiting to hear the final tally of what was raised at the recent SPCA Cupcake Day, but the cupcakes we'd donated sold out, and we understand that funds raised are up on last year - so that's great to hear!

We had a lovely time at the Grand Wedding Show, and even whizzed around the show ourselves to check out some ideas for Kathryn's sisters wedding next year (where we are bridesmaids). It was neat to look at the other exhibitors wares and actually have a purpose for them, instead of just oohhing and aaahhrring and not having an occasion where they could be used!

We're super chuffed with how fun the Black, White & Yellow Dessert table turned out - The yellow really popped and was a fun contrast against the Black n White. Quite a few brides that came through mentioned that Yellow was in their wedding colour pallet, so that was a stroke of luck!

Exciting that we got to showcase the gorgeous Vintage Lace cupcake paper surrounds. They are ivory in colour, and were just really soft and romantic. We've done them with other colours behind them, and the colour pokes through - we'll have to do some mock ups and line them all up for a pic to show you the difference.

The Green and Brown Koru theme tower was a hit too, with many couples wanting to add a kiwiana feel to their special days - I love brown and green together..and who doesnt love chocolate!!

Still waiting for the last little bits and bobs to be done on the new website. We know you're excited to see it..so will shout from the rooftops when its here...

Father's Day 2011

Cant believe that its that time of year again...what to do? What to do? Soap on a rope?, Socks?, Slippers? BBQ tools?, Rod Steward CD?, Old Spice? hmmmm, they've all kinda been done to death huh?! Well, luckily that blokes like cupcakes too!

When we first opened, we have to admit we were quite surprised with the number of guys that come in to purchase some sweet treats, and even more surprised to find that its often the guys that drive the decision regarding flavour of wedding cupcake towers!

So this Saturday, we will have some bloke friendly flavours in store - they'll be baked fresh as usual, so will be fine for you to store them in an airtight containers somewhere at home, to give to the special man in your life come Fathers Day this Sunday morning.

We aren't usually open on Sunday's and aren't going to make an exemption or do deliveries on Sunday, as we want to spend the day with our special men too..we're sure you understand!

Boston Gnome - Vanilla stuffed with Custard topped in Vanilla dipped in Chocolate

Luck of the Irish - Guinness infused chocolatey cupcake topped with Baileys irish cream frosting

Choc Bomb - Double Chocolate with Chocolate Ganache

Buzz Bar - Stuffed with Caramel & Marshmellow, topped in Vanilla Chocolate

Tiramisu - Stuffed with coffee filling, infused with espresso and topped in coffee cream cheese

Cookie Dough - Caramelly cupcake with chewy cookie dough inside.

Pre-orders taken for pick ups - we recommend a box of 6 (one of each flavour) or a Dozen (2 of each flavour) for variety.

The last day for pre-ordering - particularly for deliveries will be Friday mid-day.

Of course, we'll be baking our wee hearts out so there are lots instore, but in order to avoid disappointment, its a good idea to get your order in.

We havent got a special 'Fathers Day' set on our website (as our new one is still in development behind the scenes) - so just order a different flavour from the online menu and in the 'special instructions to merchant' state: Fathers Day mix' and we'll get it sorted - or give us a call at the shop: 09 974 3349

So think about your men...Dads, Grandads, Stepdads, Dads of your 'Fur Children' - or the special Father figure in your life, and grab them something on Saturday. We all know the way to their hearts is through their tummies!

SPCA Cupcake Day Tomorrow!

Wow, we cant believe how the time has flown...another year has gone by, and its time for SPCA Cupcake Day again.

We are suckers for our furry friends, as you can tell in this picture, and are pleased to be support SPCA Cupcake day again...this time in quite a big way!

We've been super busy baking up a storm, so that you can get your hands on some of our Cupcakes, with all proceeds going to the SPCA.

There will be 2 stands set up on the North Shore, so that you can grab a cupcake on your way to work, and help this amazing cause at the same time.

Where & When:

Albany Park and Ride from 6.30am

and

Takapuna outside the information centre, 49 Hurstmere Road (next to NZ Post) - from 7.30am -

Tomorrow - Monday 29th August 2011

We will also have a limited number of animal themed cupcakes in store.

None of these are available for pre-order or delivery, so its first in first served.

Even if you dont get your hands on one of our cupcakes, there are many hard working home bakers in the community arranging their own fundraisers within schools, workplaces and morning teas for the SPCA, so we hope that you'll be involved one way or another, whether its buying, baking, or just donating to official collectors.

We cant wait to see how much is raised!

Be sure take pictures of any of your creations if you're getting involved, we'd love to see them.

Please forgive us for the EXTREME delay between blog posts. We've been rather busy girls in the shop (those cupcakes dont just bake themselves gosh darn it!), and our religious posting to our facebook page is good, and tonnes of work going on in the background for our hot new website has been happening, our poor ol blog has been neglected...will you forgive us? Pretty please with sprinkles on top?

A pinky promise to you - we will start to blog weekly...shocking I know...BUT...its in our calendar..with reminders even..WHOA..thats official!

Recap in Bullet Points incase you've missed any action of late..

We celebrated 1 year in our store...INSANE how the time has flown! - We have really settled into the store and have some amazing locals and regulars - its rather like Cheers sometimes with peeps popping into visit, staying for their lunch from the sushi shop a few doors down, and where everybody knooows your naaaame!

Sophie who has joined our team rocks our world, and is possibly as zany as us. She makes AMAZING Cake pops - which we always say are AMAZEBALLS, and the bad jokes just keep flyin around the kitchen...but seriously, if you haven't tried a Cake Pop...then do it..keep you eye out for them on Saturdays instore.

We got some HOT canvas art for the store of our cupcakes, which has really brightened up the place, and helped considerably with the echo (go figure!)

Got our new wee vehicle which is perfect for zipping around on cupcake business with our Pink logo on the back...she is affectionately known as Daisy, so if you see her around, give her a friendly honk...no finger signals thanks (note to self..have to curb the inner road rage now that vehicle is signwritten!)

More exciting new flavours added to our range, making appearances in store from time to time, some we have dreamed up whilst hungry, and some are from your awesome suggestions...keep em comin..we love coming up with new flavours.

Kathryn has two new fur babies, adopted from Raewyns Cat Rescue. They've settled into home and putting up with their big 4 year old human brother very well, and are already growing quickly.

Another fantastic Food Show has been and gone (and we have our voices back now from our constant talking!! hehe) It was great as always meeting all sorts of awesome peeps, handing our zillions of mini's for taste testers and swapping goodies with other exhibitors! hehe.. We got a great response from one of our dessert tables that we had on display - even having a couple of things swiped of it!

Colleen is having fun with the evening classes, teaching you keen home cupcakers the secrets the buttercream frosting, meeting lots of fellow baking addicts and having some laughs along the way.

Brilliant having a few of the papers, womens magazines and online sites featuring us of late - Thanks to Womans Day, New Idea, nzgirl, Sunday Star Times & The North Shore Times. Still a little odd seeing our logo and cupcakes in print sometimes!

The Novelty of our iphones still hasnt worn off, so please forgive us for experimenting with a million different picture apps, labels and filters for our site, and spamming our Facebook wall & Twitter with them! We have to say though, being able to see your orders in our calendar at the touch of a button wherever we are, or clicking on your address or phone number when we're a tad lost is invaluable!

Pita Pit has opened on Apollo Drive, Mairangi Bay - so a 5 min drive to get our lunch fix is a regular occurance...YAY for a yummy balance - we have to be good girls with all the important cupcake taste testing that goes on

We have ANOTHER new obsession....Pinterest.....words cant describe it...its our happy place - full of inspiration, beautiful things, amazing recipes, DIY projects we never have any time for, and everyone elses perfect houses that we put in our 'Lotto Dreams' board...oh, and cakes and cupcakes...lets not forget those!..Heaven....if you are not scared of being sucked in as we have been - then we dare you to look - www.pinterest.com

Been workin on our new website...I swear we have written enough content there that is the equivalent of writing a book - Super excited that its due to launch sooon...so eyes peeled

Mother's Day High Tea Giveaway

Well - its taken us some time to gather our thoughts and breath after the AMAZING group effort that was the 'Get Your Bake On' Fundraiser the other week. I fear this post will not even come close to expressing how wonderful and generous you all are but we will give it a go!! We are still utterly OVERWHELMED by the support shown from the community and other businesses, and wonder how long it will take us to get rid of the fuzzy feelings that it bought? And also when we'll stop tearing up at stories that have come from all of this!

Incase you missed the news - we are so excited to tell you that we managed to raise: $6,664.40 on the day!
Our landlords were so chuffed with the community feel on the day and all the support for the event, so they contributed an additional $1000 directly to the Red Cross appeal.
A lot of people had suggested that we get the amount raised on the day matched by one of the larger corporations that were offering to do so and we thought 'heck, the more money raised the better!', so we have contacted Paper Plus, and luckily they hadnt reached their cap, so they are matching our efforts! Which is amazing news. Imagine...$13,328.80!!!!

We know that its just a drop in the bucket for the relief fund, but we also know that every dollar helps, and its neat to think that the Red Cross will distribute the funds in the best way possible.

What started with a simple idea for a Bake Sale, became almost bigger than Ben Hur!
With Baking being donated by people from all over Auckland, and businesses contacting us left right and centre with offers of help, and products to sell or raffle, we were very busy girls co-ordinating it.
Phone calls were quickly made to our Mums (always the first call huh!?, and we figured we could call on their experience from School fundraisers and bake sales they've been involved with in the past) and friends and family to help pull it all together!

There was much organising to do, and we were trying to make sure that we'd thought of everything from bags & tongs to price tags, pens, were there enough helpers for the day, rubbish bags, extra loo paper incase we had an influx of people needing loo breaks, or should we hire a port-a-loo?.
Had we contacted all the local papers and radio stations & schools?
Did you post the flyers up at that Supermarket last night, or did I?
Where did we put the contact details for that person go?
Did you book the trestles?
We need to order more chocolate...
What are we going to do about traffic / parking?
What if it rains?
Heck I forgot to get more cellotape....and so it continued.....

Our 'joke' of a company motto certainly came into effect 'There are 24 useable hours in every day'
The phone would not stop ringing!
The paranoia started to set in for us, and we were worried that there wouldnt be enough baking to actually sell on the day, so we got busy in the kitchen too - over 1000 mini's, a mountain of Martha Stewart crackle biscuits, tonnes of chocolate crackles and lots of gingerbread.
Not to mention we had lots of usual cupcake baking to squeeze in amongst the madness. Weddings, birthdays and special treats apparently dont just stop because we decided to have a good ol fashioned Bake Sale!

We experienced the power of Social Media first hand, with generous offers of help of baking, helping on the day. printing, photos, goodies, flyer distribution, all coming through Facebook & Twitter.
Still, one of the best forms of advertising still has to be the trusty 'Word of Mouth'! The amount of people that mentioned a friend or relative had told them about it was really touching. Its so neat to think that people were talking about it with each other and helping to spread the word whichever way they could.

People were so positive, and many said they felt that it made them feel as though they were actually doing something to help, all the way from up here, as they had felt so hopeless being far away, which is exactly as we'd felt.
Volunteers remained calm and collected as we were running around like headless chooks.

With everyones help and generosity, it all came together on the day! Except for the manky muggy, drizzly and sometimes rainy weather....but even that didnt stop everyone from coming on down to grab some yummy treats :)
We were silly billies for being paranoid about the lack of baking, as we had NOTHING to worry about, the amount of baking donated was PHENOMINAL - and it was all gone by 4pm! There are some very happy bellies out there, and people are still commenting about the goodies they snapped up on the day.
The calibre of goodies donated stunned us as they were coming through the door.
A lot of thought and time had been put into it by so many people. Lovely packaging, adorable decorations, decadent ingredients, clear labeling to be wary of allergies etc. Mouthwatering and mind blowing!

We would like to personally thank each and every person and company who contributed in their own way, this is rather difficult as not everyone has an email address, or even left their details when they dropped off baking, or dropped in to help - so if this is you - you know how amazing you are and we're sending you a GIANT virtual hug!
We appreciate how long it takes to bake from scratch, and how tiring it can be on your feet for long periods of time, but our amazing volunteers never waivered - they continued re-packaging, pricing, selling, chatting and smiling. Brilliant.

Robbie - from Vauxall Cafe who manned our coffee machine when we were running around outside like headless chooks
Little Cookies - Kirin helped all day, baked, donated cupcake cases to fellow bakers and leant her mobile eftpos machine!

Our new flavour competition

We're sorry to leave you hanging, as we had been super busy with the Bake Sale to raise much needed funds for our friends down south (seperate blog post coming soon for that)

Its been very hard to decide - but we've compiled our list of finalists, and we cant wait to get baking and tempt our own taste buds, then unleash them on you to try!

We'd like to thank all of you that took the time to enter, and let you know that there were some fantastic sounding cupcakes, some weird and wonderful flavourings, some which would have been impossible to source ingredient-wise, and some of which were actually already on our menu or we have done in the past and will be appearing on our new menu (coming soon) anyway!

Some people really do think alike, as there were a few entries for the same type of flavour or with very similar combinations- so to be fair, we decided on the first one that came through of that vein.

Its been tough narrowing them down to 5 - but there they are....

Competition update

Hi Guys

With all that's going on with our bake sale we have decided to postpone our competition for another week. That means if you haven't got your entry in yet you have until Friday 4th to enter. We will announce the top five over the weekend and then you can start voting on which one would be your favourite. We will have the top 5 in store to sample Saturday 12th March.

Celebratory Cupcakes Close to home

Well, we received some SUPER exciting news - over the weekend, Kathryn's sister (and sometimes cupcake helper) got engaged to her partner Al.

Now when Al was in the shop just before Valentines flexing his muscles cutting up 12kgs of chocolate for our ganache, and Fee was in here furiously making up cake boxes, WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT that the next week, they'd be announcing their engagement.

Its just so neat...and now the first question that springs to mind is 'Engagement Party Catering'

Oh...engagement party cupcakes!...heck...what theme??

Fee is fun and stylish, loves girly things & purple and Al is dedicated to martial arts, Rock Music and all things blokey and with some sci-fi thrown in - so what will it be??

Purple Ninjas, Nun-chucks with flowers, ACDC & Dirty Dancing inspired cupcakes?, Stargate/Handbags & Necklaces?

We're in quite the tizzy....

What if they dont even want cupcakes?? How will we cope.....and now the next thing to think about....fitting into hot outfits for the wedding...'Operation: Stop Taste Testing the Cupcakes and commence dieting to avoid double chins in professional photos' must commence!

Dream up a Delish

Well - we LOVE dreaming up new flavours, and are always inspired by recipe books (real ones and online ones) and we know that so many of you have amazing talents in the kitchen - or just amazing taste buds, so we want to run a wee competition where you win, as do your tastebuds - we love your interaction - after all, you are as passionate about cupcakes as us, and we love your input.

So here goes....

Dream up a new Delish Flavour

If there is a favourite flavour of yours that we havent got on our menu, or had in the past, that you think would be super yum, then tell us about it.

Break it down by being as descriptive as possible - include name of the cupcake (something fun, quirky or a play on words), what flavours should be in the cupcake base, the frosting flavour & type, any decoration - should it have stuffing? etc

Here's an example:

Name: 'Ink Pink' (Pinky Bar inspired)

Base: Choc

Stuffing (if applicable) : Marshmellow & Caramel

Frosting Flavour: Rasberry & Chocolate

Frosting Type: Buttercream

Decoration/Style: Frosting swirl is verigated half and half

Here's the downlow:

Entries will be open until Friday 4th of March. Then we'll pick a Top 5.
We'll make those flavours HAPPEN - We'll post pics, and have them instore for tasting on Saturday 5th March.
The 5 Finalists will get to collect a 6 pack from our store of their flavoured cupcakes to gobble up all themselves.
We'll take votes in store and online for peoples favourite from the Top 5
The winner will be announced Friday 11th of March!!
Winner gets naming (and bragging) rights to their creation, and their creation will be added to our menu available for ordering online, and instore weekly for a month (or even longer if its a big hit!)
Most importantly, the winner will receive 1 dozen of THEIR flavour!!!

Long Time No Hear....

Right - FIRST off - we are making a commitment to you to blog more often - we get so busy in the shop, and time flies - BUT - we are blog junkies ourselves, and love reading what others are up to, so need to stop being so nosey ourselves, and let you guys in more! Win a Giant Christmas Cupcake

We decided that we wanted to make our Christmas competition just a little bit different this year. We are going to give away a giant Christmas tree cupcake which will be delivered on Christmas eve anywhere in Auckland! This will serve up to 12 people....or 4 if you are really hungry :)

To enter what we would like you to do is take a photo of your Christmas tree once it is up and send it to us. Don't worry if you don't have one, just take a photo of a friends or even one at the mall!!! Email us the photo plus your name and a contact phone number, we will announce the winner 5pm Thursday 23rd December.

Milkmans Mission

Our very own milkman from Northern Milk Distributors, Haydn, is a new cupcake fan - and we are always feeding him up with new cupcake flavours we are trialing, or roping him into helping if we are insanely busy and he pops by after his shift - the poor thing was made to put his muscles to use for something other than hauling milk the other day, and had to chop 4kgs of chocolate for a batch of chocolate ganache - what a legend!

Haydn has quite the sweet tooth, and is quietly confident, that he could chomp his way through one of our Giant Cupcakes on his own - hmmm....we have pointed out that there is the equivelent of 2 dozen cupcakes in each of those Giant Cupcakes, but he is confident he can do it!

This man means business - he can fit a WHOLE cupcake (with frosting) in his mouth at once...as per the evidence below....

So - we are putting him to the challenge - he informs us that this will be the first in a series of challenges that he undertakes - so watch this space!

To add to the fun - we'd like to involve you guys - and get your input for a bit of a competition - so please pop by the store, and place your 'Guess' in our glass 'Milk Bottle'

We are wanting you to guess if he can actually do it - and if so - what time frame will he do it in.

Well, how exciting! It all came together in the end - after a lot of stress, last minute hold ups and

exhibiting at the Food Show amongst it all - we pulled it off - our store is open for business!

And business it has been - we thought we'd ease ourselves into it, by having a 'soft opening' so opened the doors to

supportive neighbours and locals who kindly let us practice our coffee making skills out on them - and we have been busy girls since!

The Grand Opening was loads of fun with awesome face painting for the littlies by Fab Faces - I wish we had taken pics of all the kids faces that she did, as they were amazing, but here are a couple of cuties that we managed to snap

We have really settled into our new kitchen and space. It feels like we've been there forever.

Oh - how can we forget - we should give you an update on The Food Show -

what a fantastic response we had, lots of keen cupcake taste-testers and many people interested in our towers for events such as birthdays and weddings.

We even sold out of cupcakes a couple of the days which really surprised us as we had been baking dozens and dozens!

Best Ever Choc Chip Cookies

"Best Ever Choc Chip Cookies

2 and 1/4 cups plain flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt (note: I love salt in sweet things. I up this to 2-3 teaspoons, but that's just me. And I use Maldon sea salt)
1 cup butter or dairy free spread
3/4 cup caster sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 large eggs
2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup oatmeal or porridge oats
Preheat the oven to 190 C (350 F). Line several baking trays with baking paper.

Put the butter, vanilla and sugars in a bowl and beat until creamy. Add the eggs, one at a time, until creamy and fluffy.

Add 1 cup of the flour and fold in. Then add the rest of the flour, the baking soda and salt. It will look very thick and you'll think you need to add water or something, but don't! It will all be fine! Keep stirring!
Once all the flour is mixed in, add the oats and choc chips, again a bit at a time. Stir through thoroughly.

Use two teaspoons to spoon the mixture into small dollops on to the baking trays. You'll probably be able to get 12 on a normal baking sheet. Make sure you leave lots of room in between them, as they spread out when baking.
When your trays are all loaded, put them in the oven and bake for 10-11 minutes or until they look golden on top. An oven timer is my lifesaver here. I can't tell you how many biscuits I burned over the years because I got distracted while they were in the oven!
Remove from the oven and cool slightly before removing from trays. Then spoon remaining mixture back on to the trays as before, put back in the oven, etc. Until all the mixture is gone!
It takes me about 7 trays to use all the mixture.
Depending on the size of your dollops, you can get up to 80 cookies from this - I usually average around 65."

I made mine twice the size as i like bigger cookies, I got maybe 30 large cookies. I also added 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. yum!!

It has been such a long time since we last blogged. It's not like we have nothing exciting to blog about we just have too much to do!! :)

We have had fun doing lots of custom orders. We ended up doing 3 SATC2 themed orders. We are still yet to see the movie ourselves darn it!! One of them we chose to do a mocha and white themed tower, Colleen outdid herself with the beautiful fondant creations, they are my all time favourite.

We also got asked to do cupcakes for the wonderful Mr Colin Mathura-Jeffree. Someone sent a pic on twitter of some awesome muppet themed cupcakes, he had said how much he liked them. That was it for us and we decided to go for the Muppet theme. They looked so adorable.

Today we are off to the Fine Food Show, it will be great to catch up with suppliers and hopefully find some new contacts. I'm also hoping for some yummy treats to sample!!

The other week we attended the gluten free show. Amazing how far gluten free products have come. There were some yummy creations that's for sure. I'm so re-inspired to try more gluten free baking. I've mastered chocolate but I'm going to trial vanilla. To complicate matters I'm also going to make it dairy free/vegan so vanilla with vegan lemon curd and vegan meringue....I didn't even know that you could get dairy free meringue mix! I had a chat to the Angel Food lady at the show and sampled them, just like the real thing!

The next couple of months is going to be really busy for us. We are moving to a new location and also we have the Food Show coming up. I can't believe it has been almost one year since the last one. That is by far our favourite show of the year. We get to meet some many people and it is just so full on. Last year they had 41,548 people through the doors!! I think most of them passed by our stand for a sample, every stand was just swamped with people.

Variety Club Bash

We are very excited to be sponsoring a team as part of the Variety Club Bash.
Variety provides support to New Zealand children who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged through a range of programmes and individual grants.

An australian team called 'The Cupcake Girls' are currently driving a Mini with a Giant Cupcake on the roof from Christchurch all the way up the country selling cupcakes to raise funds for the Variety Club. They have been participating in the bash for years and have traveled all over Australia raising funds with cupcakes, and we're chuffed they asked us to help.

Our lovely friends at the Cupcake Parlour in Christchurch www.cupcakeparlour.co.nz donated Cupcakes for their southern end of the journey, and the wonderful peeps at Bill Chill Distribution www.bigchill.co.nz have helped us out with being able to get our cupcakes distributed at other centres throughout NZ so the girls can sell them to raise funds for the bash.

Look out for the green mini with cupcake on the roof and our logo as part of the Variety Club drive. The convoy will finish at MOTAT in Auckland at Western Springs on Sunday 15th March at approx 4.30pm, where there will be more of our cupcakes around to be sold for charity.

We will be sure to get pictures up on our blog incase you dont manage to spot the adorable mini for yourself.

Feb - the month of love - and the month of Madness -

Well, we cant believe its nearly the END of February - we barely have a moment to sleep. The quiet breather of New Years is a distant memory now! - We have been very busy girls this month and were so chuffed with all the thoughtful guys and girls out there who treated their valentine with a cupcake...we didnt even have time to go shopping for our partners...so 3 guesses as to what they got for Valentines??....yep...a cupcake!

We hope that you went to grab a funky T-Shirt from our friends at Mr Vintage over Valentines Week - we did a special range of Valentines cupcakes just for them, and hear that they were well received.

If you happened to miss out, never mind...head along and check out their awesome store and t-shirts...they're good sorts.

We were very excited about our Valentines range, and LOVED our Lemon/Raspberry cupcake, we may just have to add it to the menu all the time...then hope that people order it so we can enjoy any left overs! hehe.

Wedding season is in full force, and we're having fun finalising designs for brides and cant wait for their big days - I think sometimes we look forward to their weddings as much as them! - we feel lucky to liaise with people during such a special time in their lives, and we are still touched that they want our cupcakes to feature. The feedback that we get from our clients and their guests after the big day certainly gives us the warm fuzzies.

Below is the gallery of our valentines bake - it was quite a mammoth effort, having other orders, the awesome Mr Vintage promotion and also a wedding thrown in the mix. It was a White & Gold Creation - we LOVED the personalised initials, they really added a touch of Elegance.

Design a Delish Pack
Loads of fun was had the other day by some wee girls who turned into budding cupcake decorators at a birthday party. Their clever mum bought one of our 'Design a Delish' packs, and the girls unleashed their decorating powers on the cupcakes.

Well, you already saw the halloween pics - but here are the pics of them all lined up ready for orders and for the market.Air NZ had a special market for their staff, and we did the Halloween themed ones for the day. People loved them, including the popular kiwi band, Midnight Youth who were playing in the courtyard.

We had a great view of them from our stall and loved rocking along between selling the cupcakes!Getting into the market day spirit, we had fun making some halloween coloured toffee apples for something different - people exclaimed they hadnt had a toffee apple for years and they were snapped up quickly....hopefully there werent any emergency trips to the dentist - I'd forgotten how hard they were to eat!

Baking for Hospice

A few months back I was reading another baking blog and I read that the person had done some baking for hospice. I did a bit of googling and got to the bottom of what was going on. A wonderful kind lady coordinates baking for the North Shore hospice on a monthly basis.

Every month there is a different theme which is a fun way to do it. People bake what they like and then drop their baking off at drop off points. Nessie then travels around and picks up the baking and take it to Hospice. The baking is for the patients and their families. It's so nice to know there are so many caring people out there who give up their time to help others.
Nessie has just created the baking for hospice blog I had to laugh while looking at last months baking pics there was also a photo of Delish's number 1 fan (our little man Harrison). He is such a cheeky little thing and turns on the charm whenever there is a camera. Please take a look at the site and what it's all about. 1000 cupcakes and more

The day finally arrived for the Bake Sale for Architecture week, and what a mad day it was! We knew that it would not be a walk in the park baking & decorating 1000 cupcakes and we did loads of planning, and many hours prep leading up to it, to make it as smooth as possible.

Fondant flowers and hearts were hand made and all ready to adorn the cupcakes. Ingredients were measured and weighed in advance, family members were roped in to gather things last minute for us, a LOT of diet coke was consumed (we think this may be our secret energy source...much better than water!), 20 kilos of chocolate was melted for the loads of chocolate ganache required, countless kilos of butter and icing sugar was whipped to perfection for the frosting, cupcake tins were lined with many many cupcake papers and our poor little aprons were covered in every ingredient under the sun!

1300 cupcakes (better to bake more than not enough!) were baked to perfection and a team of volunteers formed a 'chain gang' to decorate and box them. We were very worried about the weather leading up to the event as the rain had been terrible, but the sun shone down on the Pavillion outside at Britomart and local office workers stumbled out of their cubicles and were eager for their cupcakes before they had even been placed in the structure.

Here are some pics, incase you couldnt make it or incase you did get there but the cupcakes had already been snapped up - they certainly disappeared in record time. This was good news for the Starship Foundation, as we understand that the donation buckets were getting heavy with gold coins.

We are pleased that our cupcakes were enjoyed by so many, and were chuffed that the Starship Foundation have been supported by so many cupcake lovers.

Aside from the big event, we've made some other cute cupcakes. Check out these cricket themed cupcakes for a cricket mad boys birthday. The handmade fondant decorations look so cool nestled in the bright green buttercream frosting 'grass' and it was great to find a different use for the spaceman lollies that were the wickets!

we also did our usual Garden of Eden cupcakes, but the birthday girl loved Blue, so we were only to happy to make them in that colour as well, they looked so vibrant, and we love the fondant '16' against the chocolate ganache.

Sticking to 'Blue' - here were some baby shower cupcakes. The proud grand-mum to be arranged them, and the baby shower had a planes trains and automobile theme, so we alternated the baby grow suits with little planes - adorable!

We're gearing up for Halloween, so keep an eye out for some fun goulish cupcakes!

Cupcake Pavilion
With Auckland Architecture Week 09 fast approaching, preparation is in full swing for an exciting fundraising event unlike anything seen in New Zealand before.
From midday till midnight, on Friday October 16th, the OH.NO.SUMO team and their wonderful helpers will be selling delicious cupcakes from a pavilion, constructed entirely of corrugated cardboard, at the Britomart precinct. All to raise money for the Starship Childrens Hospital.
After forming in early 2009, the OH.NO.SUMO team set their sights on Auckland Architecture Week 09 with the goal to use design in a fun and exciting way, to give back to the community with a unique project. What says community more than a bake sale! An event that draws one and all to enjoy delicious treats together. For only $2.00 people will be able to choose their own parcel of baked goodness to enjoy around our sculptural pavilion.
With such a child-like event it seems only fitting that we put our efforts towards helping children. It was therefore an easy decision, that all proceeds from the sale of the cupcakes will go to the Starship Children’s Hospital, which in turn will help to put a smile on a few more faces. The wonderful people at Delish Cupcakes also saw the potential for this community event and are generously giving their time and skill to donate 1000 cupcakes to fill our pavilion and share a bit of happiness throughout Auckland’s CBD.
It was imperative that the design echo the fun and playful nature of the event, while creating an exciting spectacle that entices people to get involved. The result is a formation of intersecting, dual-curving and faceted surfaces creating a dramatic pavilion that will shelter its occupants and customers while creating intrigue for passers by.
While simple in appearance, the pavilion will be constructed from hundreds of unique pieces, created using 3D modeling software and cut using the industrial laser cutting technology at G.B.Petty Ltd, and slotted together on site. The faceted design supplies a place for each tantalizing cupcake, individually housed in its own mini cardboard pavilion. The cupcakes also play an integral part in the appearance of the façade, allowing the solid form to dissipate during the day, as cupcakes are sold, allowing light to pass through.
The excitement of a unique architectural feature and the knowledge that enjoying a delicious treat will be helping the community, means that the best place to be on the afternoon of Friday 16th October is at the Britomart Precinct enjoying a cupcake from the OH.NO.SUMO Cup Cake Pavilion raising money for the Starship Children’s Hospital.

Our Giant Cupcake is getting more and more popular, and we are producing more of those each week - the Cottage Garden is a firm favourite, but we've had fun putting together some special themed ones for people.

Check out our 'Punk themed' - with white chocolate skull & crossbones.

The 'Hedgehog Garden' was adorable, with hedgehogs made with the ever versatile Milo Cereal curls for 'spikes'

A 'Girly' theme was super cute with all things girly, dresses, handbags and shoes.

Wow - Pics of our cupcakes made the National News for the second time within a couple of months!

This time round was relating to weddings held on the 9th day of the 9th month 2009 - and we had done some lovely Calla Lily cupcakes for a wedding held at St Mathews in the City, and imagine our surprise when we saw them on the news! We've had many excited calls from friends and family asking if they were ours, and we are chuffed to confirm they were.

The cupcakes were a mixture of double chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with handmade fondant calla lillies in white & purple. The cake topper was double chocolate with more larger calla lillies to be in keeping with the cupcakes.

Sorry its been a long time between drinks..oops...I mean Blog updates. We have been very busy girls with lots of orders and exciting things in the pipeline.

SPCA CUPCAKE DAY
We've just participated in our very first SPCA Cupcake day, which was really fun. It was great to be a part of such a large event that bought cupcake and animal lovers together. We had a great response to our cute animal themed cupcakes.The Paws & Bones were a bit hit, and sold out first...we think that there are quite a few chocolate lovers out there who were enticed by the cute chunk of choc on top.The Kittens were verycute, and we are happy to share our secret that everyone was asking 'What are the kittens ears made from?' - They are pieces of Milo cereal - who said cupcakes werent for breakfast??!! and who could resist those Puppy Dog eyes!

We are so chuffed with the way that this Giant Cupcake turned out - and so was the lucky birthday

The handpiped chocolate butterflies were such a brilliant feature and looked great against the pink strawberry frosting - very girly girl :)

We cant wait for even more designs for the giant cupcake to fit with peoples favourite themes - we have a lot of fun making them, and they make such a great centrepiece.

The Auckland Food Show 2009

We were most excited to exhibit for the first time at The Food Show in Auckland last week and were honored to provide the Food Show with their 10 year Birthday Cake.

And were so excited when we saw our cupcakes appear at the end of One News - http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/record-numbers-attend-food-show-1-36-2882771

As we were a late entry, we had just a week to prepare and had to 'pull in the big guns' so to speak, with enlisting help from friends and family, and its just as well we did, as we are proud to say that our stand was a big hit at the show.

Our web designer was even helping out, and got rather mobbed when holding the tasting tray.

We added as much colour as we could to our stand to break up the black surround with our bold giant logo (pronounced 'log-go' a la Rhys Darby!) and stunning enlarged product shots.

We thought it would be a nice touch to get our logo put on some fondant for one of our displays. It turned out really well.

We had a Display 'Pod' in another area of the hall which contained a cupcake Pedistool with special Food Show Cupcakes, one of our new Giant Cupcakes and gorgeous handmade cupcake flowers made with cupcake cases inspired by Donna Hay.

So much interest was generated and were chatting to people so much that we are starting to lose our voices!

Our toes are still a tad numb from standing all day and then baking and decorating all night but we are still buzzing from the excitement that our cupcakes generated and the overwhelming support of cupcake lovers. We were flattered that so many people wanted to take photos of our cupcakes, so we snapped some of the people taking photos ourselves!

Auckland Food Show

Hi Guys

We just wanted to let you know that unfortunately we won't be at the St Heliers Market next weekend.

We have been lucky enough to secure a spot a the Auckland Food Show this year which is the 30th July - 2nd August 2009. We are very excited to be doing our first food show along with hundreds of other exhibitors. Last year the show attracted around 36,000 visitors.

These lots to do and see there, I for one will be on celeb foodie watch! If you have some time spare come and check us out :)

Keep a lookout out for our "product pod" which will be displaying some yummy red velvet cupcakes with the official Food Show logo on the top. These are large glass displays which are in great locations around the show.

Thanks so much to those that entered a loved one into our first competition. We had so much trouble picking the winners from the heart felt entries received, its great to hear that there is still so many people out there looking out for each other during trying times, and wonderful to hear how appreciated your Mums are.

We ended up giving away 5 boxes of Cupids Touch cupcakes and really enjoyed the looks on their faces when we hand delivered them.

Marise, Papakura, writes of her very caring Mum & Community hero:

I would like to nominate my mum. Mum does voluntary work for the Citizens Advise Bureau and the red cross on a weekly basis. Mum has recently been under the weather a wee bit as she has had horrible ulcers on her legs which required her wearing tight surgical bandages on both legs, this did not stop mum from doing her voluntary work or stop her from visiting my Dad every day in hospital when he had a stroke. Mum so deserves these cup cakes - she will probably take them to share at the CAB, thats just the type of woman she is.

Faith, Milford, writes of a very giving animal lover:

She is a very special lady who works fulltime and devotes a huge amount of time to rescuing unloved cats all hours of the day and night, she goes above and beyond the call of duty. She could work from 8-8pm and still be out in all weathers late at night and early in the morning rescuing cats that need help.

Fred, Mangere, writes of a Supermum/gran:

I am entering this for my momzy. She is the most amazing person in the world. Besides holding down a fulltime job, she is also enjoying the treat (well I am sure its a treat for her? ha) of being a new grandmother of my two beautiful nieces. After some crazy shift work hours, mum comes home and wants to take on majority of the responsibility of her granddaughters, by choice I might add. Not only that, everytime we go to visit or friends go to visit, she becomes host of the year with open arms (a little bit like the ginger hair lady on Desperate Housewives, without the crazy intentions). Besides being the best mother, grandmother and friend - shes the best baker, butcher and candlestick maker (ha). Just the best friend any of us could have. Moments like this when you wish Mothers Day was every day! In saying that, I would be broke. But just to have a box of your Delish Cupcakes - PRICELESS.

Michael, Castor Bay, writes of his superstar neighbour:

After a tough year for me, having had an accident leaving me off work for 10 weeks, and also having to get to grips with being diagnosed with Coeliac Disease, Claire has been a fantastic neighbour and friend. She has been available at the drop of a hat to help with my child care responsibilities for my 8 year old son who I am home with in the afternoon. She also understands my need to have a gluten free diet, as her mother is also Coeliac, and is always sending me over gluten free baking. My son is included in many things they do with their 7 and 5 year old kids. I know she is active in the community too, and has recently returned to teaching part time - so she has loads on her plate, yet still finds time to help me. She is a great neighbour and deserves to have some special treats delivered to her, like I have mine from her.

Vanessa, Glenfield, writes of her busy and special Mum:

My mum is the best mum, she still looks out for me at 31 years old, as well and running around after my brother and sister (yes it is time she let go) and my Father ( who is disabled but beside that he takes a lot of looking after) she spends her share time knitting for my soon to be born nephew, and is the most selfless person i know ( and that makes me think she would perhaps share the cup cakes with us too). For all she does she deserves the biggest THANK YOU ever.

Fun orders

We've had lots of fun with personalised orders this week and we'd love to share a few pics.

Below are some cheeky Ginger Cats for a 60th Birthday. The Birthday girl loves ginger cats, and after her daughter saw these in the book 'Hello Cupcake', she just knew she had to have them. They were double chocolate cupcakes with Orange Buttercream frosting - tasting just like a giant jaffa really!

Here are some pretty flowers nestled atop our vanilla 'Delish' based cupcake for an 'English Cottage Garden' themed birthday. We love how the green cupcake simulates a grass bed.

We know that there are loads of people out there helping each other through difficult times, or being really good mates who go the extra mile, so

Working websites and working hard

Well, an exciting few weeks of development for us!

OUR WEBSITE IS WORKING!!! We are sooooo excited that its up - Its great to see it all put together! Its certainly a lot nicer in real life than the sketches we did that reminded us of a primary school project!

A VERY special thanks to Kathryns husband who worked into the wee small hours for us getting it up - and for putting up with our daily 'are we there yet?' moans!

The pics from our photoshoot are looking amazing...we even had to 'watermark' them to help prevent theft - heck - imagine that - others like our cupcake pics so much, they may steal them and palm them off as their own!

Our friends have been wonderful spreading the word for us, and our facebook fans have been so supportive - we are closely monitoring the 'hits' statistics etc, and its exciting seeing that increase daily.

We are chuffed to have found a new supplier whom we can source a few products from to help us achieve more special cupcakes. We've had fun playing with their Chocolate Transfers to create our new 'Fancy Pants' cupcake.

Its a double chocolate cupcake, with strawberry frosting and a fancy wee dark chocolate heart which has the little pink hearts on.

Its super sweet, very girly, and has been popular at the markets.

The Silverdale Market is going well. We're getting to know other stall holders now, and are learning more tricks to help us through the cold winter mornings. We were chilled to the bone this week with a cold southerly - and were most jealous of our 'neighbour' who had a hot water bottle under her jacket - now THATS thinking...needless to say, we will be having those up our jumpers this week!

Both being huge Dog lovers (but unfortunately neither having one of our own) we're enjoying spotting all the dogs of the people wandering by - here is 'Eddy' enjoying every last crumbs from her Mummy, Sallys cupcake case! ADORABLE!

We are also exploring more markets around Auckland. We will keep you updated with any new locations.

We have been busy with orders over the last couple of weekends and have done a few special ones lately. Firstly we did a Cookie Monster & Elmo birthday order for one of our favourite facebook fans :)

The order below is building themed order, who says cupcakes are girlie! The cupcakes were a mix of flavours and frosting with chocolate tools stabbed in them.

These little mini's were a thank you to Glenpark Child Care Centre, the ladies there are amazing. We did mini lil Teasers and also Vanilla with vanilla buttercream and Vanilla with strawberry frosting.

Finally here's one that we are both in love with. These we an order for a psychologist. It was a double chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache. Poor Colleen spent hours making the fondant but they were well worth it.

We are also excited about latest cupcake purchase, a giant cupcake tin from America. We have done a trial run which was very yummy and adorable. We will have them for sale on the website as soon as we can figure out how to house them :)

Special Orders for June

We've been letting our creative fingers run wild the last couple of weeks with some special orders.

A friend wanted to thank her local Animal hospital after her dog had a major operation. The staff had been so supportive, and she wanted something special for them that they could all enjoy, so we were chuffed when she asked us to whip up come cupcakes for them. We thought that something animal appropriate would be cute, so made these Puppies and cat cupcakes.
They were double chocolate cupcakes with our Malt Icing - the dogs ears were specially made shortbread. The cats ears were little Milo breakfast cereal curls. We loved how they turned out, and everyone that saw them fell in love with them - we hope you like them too.

What could make a team building event of Ten Pin Bowling even more fun?? Special Bowling cupcakes of course!!! After playing around with fondant icing to make the Pins, we cheated and used Milk Bottle lollies instead! Using an edible pen to put the red stripes on them, and using Giant Jaffas for the bowling balls. They turned out great, and people were relucantant to eat them as they looked so good.

We had our biggest birthday party order yet and are kicking ourselves that we didnt get photos. It was still dark in the morning when we delivered them and we wouldntve got any good shots...but take our word for it, they were great!!!...it was a Superheros and Fairies theme. We did a variety of: Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Ginga Ninjas, Butterflies and flowers, Big Gerberas, Pink & Green flowers, and did Mini Cookie Monster and Elmo for the wee ones. It was quite a mammoth task, but we were overjoyed at how fantastic they turned out and the lovely feedback that we got from the birthday girls family. Hopefully we'll get some pics sent to us at a later stage for us to post :)

Our website is getting its finishing touches and we are naturally busting with excitement. Meanwhile, support at the Silverdale Market has been great, and word of mouth is already spreading. The novelty still hasnt worn off for us each time we get a new 'fan' on our facebook fanpage!

May Madness

Hi All - Colleen here, thought we should check in with a wee update on whats been keeping us outta trouble...

We have had a busy month of May so far, and are really enjoying ourselves. We're becoming old hands at the Silverdale Saturday Market and have been fine tuning our prep (assembing

boxes, pre-stickering them, keeping our float seperate, remembering warm layers to wear as lil Silverdale gets chilly in the mornings etc etc!) and are so chuffed that some of our facebook fans have popped by to support us.

We're trying to get a regular posse confirmed for the market so people can find us a little easier, as at the mo, we've been inside the hall, but other times outside too - so watch this space.

Orders have started flowing in and we have had fun with Mothers day orders, office morning teas

and a couple of baby shower orders. The little baby stretch suits in fondant are just adorable on the tops of the cupcakes in pink or white or blue.

We did a special Sunflower cupcake for my mums birthday, it was fun experimenting with the royal icing on the oreo to make the flower, and I am becoming obsessed with the wee ladybugs..we may have to make some of them a regular little feature as they are just too cute!

We've been told our website will be completed soon, and we were beside ourselves when we saw the test page, our professional pics set up as the gallery look awesome, and we are so chuffed that everything is starting to come together.

Righto - better sign off, Greys Anatomy is on...so better get the tissues ready!

Markets

We survived our first trip to the markets :) We had a really good time and sold quite a few cupcakes, well once people realised that they were actually edible and not decorations. We eventually made a little sign under the display case saying they were edible!!

We will be back at Silverdale next weekend so if you have the time please come out and visit us. We are hoping going to be at the next Coatesville market which is the first Sunday of the month. We will keep you posted on that.

Apart from the markets we have been busy with orders. We did some Guinness cupcakes for a Mother's Day order :)

Tired but excited

We are very tired girls today. We were up till about 2 last night getting our cupcakes finished off for our jewellery store event today. It went really well and all the cupcakes were devoured :)

We had about 10 dozen to hand out

We made red velvet, Chai and double choc

Tonight we are baking our whole range of cupcakes for our professional photo shoot in the morning. I'm still not sure what we are going to do with all those cupcakes!!!!

We are both excited about our first weekend at the Silverdale Markets, hopefully the weather will behave so there will be a big turn out of people.

Busy Busy

Well it’s all systems go for our new business venture. This weekend we are providing cupcakes for a local jewellery store event for Mother’s Day we will have a small selection of our cupcakes in a baby version. Please join us if you love Pandora and of course cupcakes….who doesn’t??? We will be at ROK ME JEWELLERS - 7 Mokoia Road Birkenhead Saturday 2nd of May 2009 at 12 noon til 3.00pm

This Saturday we will be preparing for a photo shoot….not us silly... the cupcakes (they are much more photogenic!) We're really excited about this and can’t wait to see our beautiful cupcakes all dressed up :)
Next Saturday the 9th May we will be making our debut at the Silverdale Markets please come and say hi. We will be there from 7.30am – 12pm. As this is the day before Mother’s Day we will have cupcakes to suit all the wonderful mother’s our there. You can choose from Garden of Eden, Choc Bomb, Tea Total and Cupids Touch. Our first ever blog entry

Hello and welcome to our first blog entry!! We are two ladies and besties from Auckland, New Zealand who love cupcakes so much that we have decided to setup a business together. We are very excited about the idea of others enjoying our cupcakes as much as we do.
We will be selling cupcakes online specially to order on our website which is currently being developed and also at a market local to us. Watch this space for pics of the beautiful cupcakes that are baked from scratch.

So who are we??? Well I’m Kathryn…hi *waves* I’m a full time working Mum of 1 and I’ve been obsessed with cupcakes for many years now. It’s ridiculous the amount of time that I spend thinking about cupcakes. Baking is something that I have always enjoyed but never thought that it would something that I would do for a living. I’ve spent most of my working career as an IT geek ;)
I'm Colleen, although lots of people just call me Colly, or Dobby (after the house elf from Harry Potter, as I'm a bit of a tidy freak) I work full time in the insurance industry (which doesnt really light my creative fire), and have always dabbled in arty/crafty things. I'm really excited about applying those skills and my crazy perfectionist ways to the cupcakes. We often joke about my wee touch of OCD, but I think this will be an added bonus for quality control. hehe.
